JC's Guided Sportfishing

JC's Guided Sportfishing is a classic Aussie fishing experience with a true-blue Australian and great fisherman at the helm! John Campbell has been fishing for many years, and his skill at finding (and catching!) fish are a testament to his years on the water. Having guided on major fishing charter operations before, he knows his stuff!

The Fishing
The fishing with Johnny was just a fantastic experience. On our particular trip, we caught our target species (Barramundi), but also cleaned up on the super tough, hard hitting Mangrove Jack! Working our way up super skinny mangrove sided creeks, it was up-close action with some banks only 1 meter away - casting weedless lure and some hits came only centimeters from the boat! There's nothing like the hit from an angry Jack to get your pulse racing - and we had an absolute ball trying to get them out of the sticks!

We also got to do some trolling and casting for Barramundi which we caught, plus Big Red caught a solid GT - yes a GT - in the upper reaches of the river - the fish of a lifetime!

The Location
Johnny fishes mostly around the Burdekin River, and there is never shortage of spots to try. Trolling large holes, casting at pressure points or working your way up skinny creeks, there's always pelnty of places to catch fish. When the tide and wind are right, Johnny also does some offshore fishing which can result in a great range of pelagic fish. To get here most guests fly into Townsville, then find transport to Ayr, near where Johnny is based.

Fishing Gear
On our trip with JC we bought all our own fishing gear - I'm sure Johnny could arrange some if needed!

The Lodging
We stayed at JC's dedicated fishing lodge - the Burdekin Barra Lodge which is located at Groper Creek. It's a very comforatble raised house which has all the amenitied you wil need, a large lounge room and dining area, and a nice deck to sit out on and enjoy telling fishing stories! It's only a 2 minute walk to the boat ramp and so you can always get a cast or two in if you like! The perfect place to relax and unwind after a great day fishing.

The Food
Not only can Johnny fish, he can cook too! Johnny cooks up a mean brekky and dinner, and also packs a quality lunch as well that you will need from hauling in the Barra! We are hungry fisherman, and nvere once did we get disappointed with food!
