Sand Whiting is a staple among many weekend angles and many kids first fish is a whiting and great for kids to learn to fish for
How To Catch:
Mostly targeted with bait, best baits by far are fresh beach worms and live yabbies (Nippers). Fish for on sandbanks where there are yabbie holes, especially where the flat drains into deeper water. Not hard to catch and great for kids as no real spines as they learn how to hold fish. In the last couple of seasons more and more people have been targeting with small surface poppers and having great fun with. Small surface poppers such as the smallest Rebel Pop-R are great, and if the water is not dead calm then small 'walk the dog' style lures like the smallest lucky craft sammy can work really well. When surface fishing for whiting, if a fish is following unlike bream don't make a stop
