Description:

Often confused with the Mulloway, the Teraglin is caught by anglers fishing in shore reefs mostly when targeting other species such as Snapper.

How To Identify:

Teraglin are very similar to shape to the Mulloway however can be easily distinguished by the shape of their tail. The Teraglin's tail is concave (curving inward) as opposed to the Mulloways tail being convex. They are a blue purple to along the top of their back blending into a silver side. They can sometimes appear with slightly brownish tones. They are commonly caught between 3 to 5 kgs, however can grow as large as 19 kgs.

How To Catch:

They are generally found on reefs between 20 - 50 meters and caught with normal reef fishing tackle. Often caught when fishing for snapper or pearl perch. They readily take squid, fish flesh, small fish (such as pilchards) and large prawns.

If Teraglin are located there is generally a school so it pays to continue fishing for them. It is important to work out what depth they are feeding at, and continue to fish pretty much right on that depth.

Australia
Teraglin are found on the east coast of Australia from Double Island in Queensland south along the coast line of New South Wales. Unlike Mulloway, Teraglin stay out on the coast reefs and dont venture into the estuaries.
