The sickle fish is a warm water fish named for the large scythe-like sweep of the pectoral fin.
How To Identify:
The sicklefish is a deep-bodied fish identified by the vertical rows of black spots that overlie the sicklefish's sides. It has a great scythe-like sweep in its long pectoral fin. They grow to about 500 mm (19-20 inches).
How To Catch:
The sickle fish is not often targeted by anglers but is sometime caught by anglers fishing for other species with yabbies or prawns in upstream sections of estuaries.
The sicklefish is a warm water fish which ranges pretty much the entire Queensland Coast, through the Northern Territory and into Northern Western Australia.
