Diamond Scale Mullet are an Australian warm water species of Mullet
How To Identify:
The Diamond Scale Mullet is heavier in the body than most of the other mullets, it is olive-green in colour with a cream to yellow belly. The scales on the upper part of the fish have black margins that join to form a scale like pattern. They can grow to about 5kgs
How To Catch:
All Mullet can be quite tricky to catch, however the best way is to catch Blue Tailed Mullet is to use small baited hooks with bread, dough, peeled prawn, worms or maggots. Depending on where the fish are feeding you can use unweighted baits, suspended under a light float or very light lead. Very light tackle should be used.
In Australia the Diamond Scale Mullet is found from about Noosa in Queensland around the top of Queensland, through the Northern Territory and into Northern Western Australia. Like all Mullet they mainly live in river systems, bays, harbours and Estuaries.
