Banded Morwong is the largest of the Morwong family.
How To Identify:
The Banded Morwong has a reddish silver body, sometime confused with the Red Morwong, however it lacks the horns of the Red Morwong and also displays about eight vertical dark red -brown stripes. The Banded Morwong can grow to about 15kgs
How To Catch:
Banded Morwong are not often targeted by anglers but often caught by rock fisherman or those fishing inshore reefs. More are caught by spear fisherman than anglers. Not a really fussy eater, although they prefer prawns. Normal reef fishing tackle would more than suffice.
In Australia the Banded Morwong is found along the coastlines of New South Wales, Victoria and the east side of Tasmania. The Banded Morwong prefers the rocky areas and reefs near rocky headlands. In New Zealand it is found right around the top half of the North Island.
