Chinaman fish are a red coloured reef dwelling species, should not be eaten due to ciguatera poisoning
How To Identify:
Red in appearance but change range from almost orange to deep red. It has fine yellow lines over the head and mouth of the fish. They grow to about 15kgs
How To Catch:
Not fished for generally as it should not be eaten. Will take most baits intended for other reef fish such as pilchards, squid, and fish flesh baits. Will also take a lure or jig and when hooked puts up a very strong fight.
Found on reefs along the Queensland coastline, across Northern Territory to Northern Western Australia
