Bonito is a small member of the Tuna family caught mainly for bait
How To Identify:
Blue black to Blue green above and silver below it has horizontal stripes that run from just behind the gills for the length of the fish. Sometimes it has light verticals bars as well. Grows to around 6-7 kgs but common around 1.5-2kgs
How To Catch:
Bonito will take nearly any sort of trolled lure but love particularly metal lures, such as Spanyid raiders and the like, feathers and small white jigs. They will also take fish bait such as pilchards, garfish and whitebait.
Found right around Australia's coastline, it favours inshore bays and estuaries areas where there is plenty of baitfish
