Barracuda is an elongated fish with powerful jaws and sharp teeth
How To Identify:
Barracuda's coloration is dark green or a blue type coloration or grey above chalky-white below. They have strong jaws and sharp teeth. They have faint vertical stripes and irregular blotches towards the back of their body. The tips of the soft and anal fins are white. Quite common in the tropics to about 15kg but can weight as much as 45kgs. DO NOT EAT - KNOW TO CAUSE CIGATERIA POISONING.
How To Catch:
They will take most types of lures and usually caught when chasing other species such as mackerel, or other game species. Will take pretty much any type of flesh bait as well. Handle with extreme care. A definite destroyer of lures.
The Great Barracuda is found in all tropical seas except the East Pacific. Found in tropical waters around Australia. The love reef edges where they chase baitfish and cruise along drop offs. Juveniles can be found up tropical estuaries
