The Blue Shark is a long, lightly built oceanic shark. Similar to the Mako but much thinner, and its pectoral fins are long, and floppy. It is a brilliant blue colour. It is a deep cobalt or indigo blue on the top, lightening to a beautiful blue on the sides then to white on the belly. Grow to about 200kgs and 4 meters.

The Blue Shark is normally found in the cool temperate seas, often near the surface, however if there are warmer currents it often is found in depths 110-170 fathoms. In Australia it is found in the cooler waters of New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Southern Western Australia. In New Zealand it is found right the coastline of New Zealand primarily in the open ocean but also over the continental shelf.
