Occurs worldwide in shallow tropical and subtropical waters around sand flats and intertidal areas. In Australia it is found from the topics of Western Australia around the North territory to Northern Queensland although there have been reports of them as low down as Morton Bay. They love sandy flats where they are targeted by fly fisherman
